Tell me about your The Beginning!
We were family friends our grandmothers (our mum’s mums) were friends. Ainslie was neighbours with Lewis’ s Aunty and Uncle (separate). We reconnected originally through Bec (Maid of Honour). Lewis went to school with Bec and Ainslie met Bec working at Bean Squeeze. We never had the awkward “meet the parents” moment as we both already knew each other from growing up together – it made things so seamless. Our first kiss was a night out at The Inn Hotel in 2017. Ainslie was out with Bec and Lewis was out with Jeremy (groomsman). Lewis messaged Bec afterwards asking for Ainslie’s details to message, only to add her on Facebook and be left pending. We reconnected in 2019 and had our first date together at Soft Cafe (still a favourite) for coffee, then continued dating from there. Our first conversations were easy as both knew each other and were rather effortless. Conversation flowed and we both felt a connection and a comfortable familiarity.
When and where did you get engaged?
Lewis proposed at Lake Bled in Slovenia during our Europe trip in May 2023. We’d designed the ring earlier in the year so I knew it was coming (and I was so freaking excited), but I thought I’d convinced Lewis to propose in Florence (one of my favourite cities which was the stop prior) but it hadn’t happened so I was feeling a little thrown. The moment we got to Lake Bled Lewis was like “let’s go on a walk around the lake this very second!!!” and conveniently knew of a look out that took us to the most stunning view of the lake and the church in the middle. Lewis basically ran to the top to beat the German tourists behind us so he could drop to one knee without an audience. He’d been carrying the ring around for nearly 3 weeks he was very relieved to have it safely on my hand! Lewis had also organised a photograher to meet us the next morning for an engagement photoshoot which was such a special surprise and now we have photos from that day we will cherish forever.
What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?
We’re having a chic cocktail style wedding at del Rio’s winery. We chose this venue because we loved it being indoors (no major wet weather plans here!) and we love the food and wine on offer. The styling is very classic and chic, lots of black, white and touches of pink.
What are you most looking forward to on the day?
Getting to say our vows to each other and finally becoming Mr and Mrs Nagle. Marriage is something that is incredibly important to us (even though essentially nothing changes aside from my last name!) but we’re so excited to start this next chapter of our lives. Plus, let’s be honest, the first sip of champagne after the ceremony is going to go down a bloody treat!!!
Top Tips!
Book your major vendors in super early! Really think about what you want, what you can cut costs on, what is important to you. I think transport for your guests is key – making sure they can get home safely if you’re choosing to have your wedding a bit out of town!
